Three Things Thursday [Vol. 21]

If you’re new here, you may not be familiar with three things thursday – but it’s been a year and a half since the last installment, so maybe no one remembers it much anyways. No worries! These posts are just an excuse for me to write about something in groups of 3.

So without further ado – here are three things my toddler is teaching me about God

  1. He (God) will answer my prayers

It dawned on me the other day why God responds to prayers grounded in faith, not eloquence. This is because Torre is in a particularly charming stage of exploding vocabulary and will. He is able to verbalize his wants and insist that they be fulfilled. “Mama, over there!”

“Daddy, open the door!”

“No blanket!”

“No pants!”

“Applesauce, yeah?”

In Luke 11, after teaching his disciples to pray, Jesus says, “What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent;  or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?  If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

I don’t give Torre what he asks for (when it’s possible and wise to do so) because he is eloquent or “deserving” or because he builds a good case, and as much as I love Torre and want to give him everything that will help him thrive and mature and enjoy life, God is infinitely more willing and capable of doing the same for me.

Three Things Thursday [Vol. 20]

Ah how I love the miscellany I get to write about on Thursdays! From daily life to spiritual life to sarcastic reflections on pregnancy, it’s just so nice to have this outlet for sharing three things at a time 🙂 With that said, I am pleased to announce three firsts that Torre’s had this week!

1. First stroller outing sitting forward instead of strapped into the car seat attachment (the huggies box is not product placement but a simple testimony to our messy apartment these days)

I can’t actually look directly at this picture because my heart might just explode with cuteness and being overwhelmed how quickly and beautifully my baby is growing up.

Three Things Thursday [Vol. 19]

I am so happy that today is Thursday, for I have a couple random thoughts I was thinking about blogging, but they really don’t relate in the traditional sense of a post. However, I can see God’s blessing in all of them, so today I will share 3 things I’m grateful to God for:

  1. Yesterday I took the subway downtown and ended up stuck. The station I went to was under construction to “improve accessibility,” which makes sense because there was no way for me to get above ground with Torre in the stroller. There was one escalator going up, but there were stairs down and up to get to it. I asked the ticket guy if there was any way out, and he said I needed to take the subway back a few stops to get above ground and just walk. He suggested I ask someone to help me just take the stroller up the stairs.

Three Things Thursday [Vol. 18]

sad v awesomeI came across this picture on the internet and decided it was worth sharing. To be fair, when I get sad, I usually stay sad for a while, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Your brain can do some crazy stuff if you make a habit of repressing emotions. But this quote got me thinking, and I was hoping to post today, so here come 3 ways to be awesome instead of sad:

  1. Pick one thing (or three!) that you love about yourself. Sappy? Only if you make it sappy!
For example, something sappy I love about myself is my inner beauty. Something awesome I love about myself is being able to write acrostic poems for any occasion:

Three Things Thursday [Vol.17]

I have been a little bit in the trenches this week, trying to remember my own advice and accept that my plans will not necessarily be what determine my days. In between [so! many!] diaper changes and [heart melting] snuggles and taking care of myself, I have enjoyed some hilarity on the internet. Each item honestly made me laugh out loud, and I challenge you to read/watch them to the end without doing the same 🙂

1. Reasons My Son is Crying

Friends of mine had a son just over a week ago (Congrats, Nick and Ash!), and this site was posted to their wall on facebook. I thought it was kind of cute, but not hilarious… until looking at the same pair of teary eyes and reading the parent’s explanations finally got me actually laughing. I imagine that down the road Matt and I will use the same coping skills of just not taking our kid seriously. Because sometimes, “the milk isn’t juice,” and there’s nothing else to say about it.
