Stay Golden with Poetry

It has been a very busy last few days for our family, and I have been grateful for Torre’s flexibility and resilience as we kept him up late away from home several nights in a row. Last night was a show for Stay Golden, a performing arts ministry Matt leads that gives young artists a stage, and as always it was inspiring to hear testimonies and see the passion that high school students and young adults bring through spoken word, song, and dance. I signed up for the open mic part of the show and had so much fun presenting a spoken word piece I wrote this Fall – I’m hoping to post the video before long.

Easy Mini Quiches

I have been meaning to post this recipe for a while since it was a delicious make-ahead breakfast and would be a tasty snack as well. The quiches are lined with meat instead of pastry, so it is low-carb and very flavorful. I modified this recipe and was happy with the results, although it is extremely flexible and could be modified according to whatever ingredients you have on hand.

To start, I sauteed half a cup each of minced onion and mushrooms in about a tablespoon of butter.Quiche 1

While that was going, I whisked 6 eggs, some cream and a half cup of chopped spinach.

One Month

My baby is one month old today! This must be the fastest a month has ever passed in my life, and I know it’s only a taste of what’s to come.

DSC07183I am mind-blown,
since he came into the world,
this son in my arms,
who grew in my belly.
How can it be
that every person on the planet came from a seed
planted in a womb,
nourished by blood, and
ripened in water?
Delivered alien,
helpless.
How can it be that my flesh,
born from flesh,
has borne flesh?
Conception created the
inception of a human being:
belly within a belly,
my eyes in his face,
my heart in his hands,
captured with his first wavering cry
as his slippery skin turned pink
and his ten toes wiggled.

And now he sighs,
asleep on my lap,
too perfect to stay this small,
I know he will grow as fast as my wonder.

Three Things Thursday [Vol.9]

3 framesThese three picture frames were inspired by my readings on the internet about how to honour special memories while decluttering. The frame on the left displays memorabilia from our honeymoon, while the two frames on the right display program covers and tickets from shows Matt and I saw on special dates as well as a picture of us during intermission from the first show. I love this idea because instead of having to choose between keeping sentimental clutter or throwing out memories, we can enjoy and share our memories of these special times on the walls of our home! The only question now is where to hang them?
